Happy we-don’t-know-what-day-it-is-anymore, #NoteddTribe! The long holiday weekend threw us in for a loop because we swear we had another day to put our newsletter today. Because of the above, we’re sharing our newsletter a bit later than anticipated this week (a whole day later as a matter-of-fact 🥴), but as always, we appreciate your patience and continued support.
The news cycle is already overwhelming on a regular day. However, there is a lot to unpack this week. Additionally, there is now an even greater need to dodge misinformation on various US and world events.
Thus, this week’s newsletter will be a bit different. We want to make sure that you have what you need to stay informed, but more importantly, aware of what led to the recent events in the Russian-Ukraine crisis, how it could impact us here, and ways you can support those who have been impacted. This information is upfront, while the middle part of our newsletter highlights the celebratory news of Black women and the Black community because we believe there are light and dark moments during these unfortunate times in our history.
At the very end, you can get a feel of what we have going on here at Notedd, along with some celebratory news of our own!
We hope you enjoy this issue and, of course, #staynotedd!
The Russian-Ukraine War
This newsletter is a bit outdated since it was released earlier this week. However, this WashPo 5-Minute Fix is a personal favorite of ours as it briefly details what led to the invasion, how the war could impact Americans, and even explains terms that have been used frequently in reports.
If you check Twitter for real-time updates, this thread of NPR articles helps break down the Russia-Ukraine crisis even further.
Sources such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and CNN provide frequently updated, live coverage where you can bookmark and read real-time news throughout the day.
NPR, Forbes, and Global Citizen list a variety of meaningful ways and organizations in need that you can support if you’re looking to support Ukrainians.
We believe it’s important to be engaged and informed of what’s happening in the world. At the same time, it’s just as essential to disengage for your peace of mind. If you are like us, who tend to read and listen to news throughout the day, especially with a world crisis such as this one, we often refer to this article of tips and tools to help us step away for a bit.
Breaking News: President Biden will officially announce his nomination for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to replace Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer later today. Reports share that this nomination comes exactly two years after President Biden promised during the 2020 presidential campaign to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court. More details are to come on when the confirmation hearing will be scheduled, but it was reported that Senate Democrats want to act quickly on the nomination.
