Hey hey hey #NoteddTribe! It’s the first day of July, and chile the outside surely feels like it.
We’re heading into the 4th of July holiday, a day that is set to celebrate our nationhood. But for us, this is America — celebrating the amazing things that our community is doing each and every day.
This month alone, we witnessed and were a part of some beautiful wins. Juneteenth became an official holiday. Kataluna Enriquez was recently crowned Miss Nevada USA, and will compete for the Miss USA title —making her the first openly transgender woman contestant. We had an opportunity to pitch Notedd to the world (more information below). We want to celebrate your wins too. Share your wins with us and the community by adding to this thread.
It seems like this month’s focus, Mental Health, couldn’t have come at a better time. July marks BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month: a time of year to shed light on the mental health needs of the Black community and other underrepresented communities. We hope you all are able to take this holiday weekend to rest and relax, prioritizing yourself and your overall health.
Make sure to check out the honorable mentions that is centered around building in new practices to help with your mental health.
Stay cool, and as always, #StayNotedd!
We Did It!
We have been on cloud nine since our feature in yesterday’s digitalundivided The Big Bang Showcase. Thank you so much for those who were able to attend! You can check out this link to see our debut (we start at 49:35), and watch our customer pitch and view our deck.
During the showcase, we announced the exciting news of our new community platform. This Fall, we’ll be piloting a premium outlet for the community to reflect, discuss, and share perspective on a multitude of issues that matter to them in a dedicated communal space on MightyNetworks. Sign up today to become a founding member!
Did you know that half of all women businesses are owned by women of color?
We absolutely loved this history lesson Gwen Berry gave as a result of the criticism for choosing to stand up for her beliefs during her Olympic medal trials ceremony.
You can expect a docu-series on our beautiful crowns to hit Hulu and OWN next year called The Hair Tales. Executed produced and narrated by Tracee Ellis Ross and Michaela angela Davis, the series will “unpack beauty, identity and the experiences of Black women through the distinctive lens of Black hair.”
Rep. Cori Bush introduced the People’s Response Act to Congress, a bill that would establish a public safety division within the Department of Health and Human Services. The division would call upon non-police first responders for emergency situations stemming from mental health issues, substance use or other health complications.
The Tokyo Olympics will be filled with Black women athletes, but let’s acknowledge their adversities and wins leading to this moment. From Sydney McLaughlin to the Black girl magic gymnastics team, here’s a list of the athletes competing.
We absolutely stand behind Black Tik Tok creators who are participating in the “Thot Shit” strike. Learn from those who are protesting directly in this article.
Last weekend, we participated as a vendor in the Southeast DC’s new Black-owned farmer’s market, Soufside Market. We met some incredible vendors with amazing businesses, including Ashley Scales’ unique candle line.
Designs By Ashley Candles are 90’s Hip Hop and R&B inspired scented candles that transform the atmosphere of any room. Each candle is hand-poured, made with premium coconut wax blend and cotton wicks, but that’s not the best part. Each candle also has a QR code that takes you to a curated playlist on Spotify. Enabling both senses — hear and smell — these candles are definitely helping to create a better mood and enhancing our workspace. Our personal favorites are Waterfalls and Electric Relaxation. Grab yours today!
Once you set the mood with Designs By Ashley Candles, try these meditations! Meditation can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health, giving you a sense of calm, peace, and balance. Research shows that the benefits of meditation can range from reducing stress and controlling anxiety to enhancing your self-awareness and lengthening your attention span.
Sisters from AARP provides a list of various types of meditations to try and see what style works best for you. Check out the full list below!
After you meditate, set your intentions for either the day, the week, the next month, or even the entire year. Erica Green shares her experiences with setting intentions and how the practice has helped her chart a path to fulfillment. She even provides a list of 10 intentions to help you get started. For us, the ninth intention — "I intend to trust that I am where I am supposed to be." — is one that we say to ourselves on the daily. Learn more about intention setting and see how you can start adding these intentions to your routine or create your own.
