Happy 2nd day of Fall, #NoteddTribe! We may start an argument here 🥴, but the Fall is the best season, and this recent poll shows some of the reasons why.
These past few weeks have been incredibly enlightening for us as we continue to reset and renew, work on better self-care, and determine the areas we need to improve upon the most.
In addition to our self-work, we wanted to get a subject matter expert’s opinion. We reached out to Jordan A. Madison, Relationship Restoration Expert specializing in individual, couple, and family therapy and founder of Therapy Is My Jam. She identified and provided the below five practices to consider building into your routines.
5 Practices To Build Into Your Daily Routine
Make time for solitude so that you can be still with your thoughts and notice what comes up. Moments of stillness can sometimes lead to clarity and direction on what you need to improve on.
Journal your emotions. It helps you to make sense of your thoughts, worries, and goals. You’re able to look back on the progress you’ve made as well.
Create morning and nighttime rituals. They help you to start your day and wind down from it as well. Whatever you choose to add to your rituals, make sure they add some joy to your day. For example, my morning routine consists of reading Bible verses, practicing gratitude, practicing mindfulness, and a quick yoga session. They help me improve my relationship with God, my flexibility, and how I handle stress.
Set goals for what you would like to improve in and create smaller habits to help you achieve these goals. It also helps to find ways that you will reward yourself once you see improvements. For instance, I want to improve my discipline and consistency. So if I have a good week of going to sleep early and going to the gym, I would reward myself during the weekend with something fun and simple like some ice cream, or if my budget is here for it, maybe a massage.
Ask for help. Friends or family, or partners can help to hold you accountable. Or they may want to improve in some of the same areas, and you two can challenge each other.
Stay tuned as we’ll be featuring Jordan again for a more in-depth interview in next week’s newsletter to close out our monthly theme. In the meantime, check out what we’ve notedd for you below!

Congratulations to Michaela Coel for becoming the first Black woman to win an Emmy Award for best writing in a limited series for I May Destroy You! If you missed her speech, please take a couple of minutes to watch and hear her powerful, inspiring words. Just a week before, A Black Lady Sketch Show took home its first Emmy for Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The show made history as the first-ever all-women of color team to be nominated in the editing category and the first to take the trophy home. Many still ask why performers of color are still not winning for lead and supporting actor roles like their white counterparts, especially as a recent study shows a notable increase in the number of scripted television shows with nominated Black actors.

Notedd & Acknowledged is in full swing again this week! Last week, we mentioned a recent study that found that people worldwide see climate change as a personal threat, and how companies are conducting fake interviews with Black women. We also asked whether we should continue to compare this new generation of artists like Normani and Chloe with the likes of the ones before them.
Here’s what we’re discussing with you this week!
For the first time in 17 years, Rolling Stone published its list of 500 of the greatest songs of all time. More than 250 artists, producers, music industry executives, and journalists submitted their top 50, which were tabulated into this master list. Songs like Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” (#497), Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage (Remix)” (#438), and Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” (#13) were among the few listed. The top three were Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power,” and Sam Cookie’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” We want to know: What are your top five favorite songs of all time?
Word on the street is phone calls are making a comeback! Verizon and AT&T recently reported that mobile call and wi-fi calling volume has nearly doubled since last year. Many are saying that this is a result of people’s desire for more human connection. Before the pandemic, call volume spiked in the mornings and evenings and would level off during the day, but now calls are happening throughout the day. It could be that this volume of calls is reflective of many currently working from home, but what are your thoughts? Have you seen yourself chatting on the phone more often?
We’re thinking of…
…Haitian migrants who are just trying to seek asylum, particularly those who were treated inhumanely at the hands of Border Patrol agents. Moments like this one clearly show history repeating itself. This is truly despicable behavior and treatment. There is no reason in our minds that the choice to use a whip on someone is a justified way to manage or control crowds, no matter the size. It’s very similar to the use of excessive force and chokeholds to suppress or control them. Just as The View correspondent Sunny Hostin acknowledged, there is support and resources needed at all levels of the government, just as there was help to many other communities who were seeking the same refuge.
