Good Morning #NoteddTribe!
Time feels like it’s slipping away from us. Although nearing a full week of May, it still feels like it was just April, shoot the start of 2021 honestly — depending on the day.
We know you’ve been surviving, thriving, and putting in that work, and therefore we celebrate you! In her recent Medium article, “Find Something to Celebrate,” Jolie A. Doggett reminds us that we’ve got a few things we can celebrate personally like “taking the time to read this newsletter (thank you btw 😊),” “drinking some water,” and “surviving the pandemic the best way you can.” It’s all of the things — big or small — that’s worth celebrating.
Do you want to know how others are incorporating more moments of grace, or would you like to share how you’re giving yourself grace that could help our community? Send us an email with the title “I’m In!” We’ll then follow up with an email for you to share in our community thread.
There’s a lot to celebrate, honor, and recognize, especially this month. So check out what we notedd for you, and as always, #staynotedd!
Notedd News
May has indeed sprung! Each week, we’ll focus on several upcoming holidays and share how we are celebrating, honoring, and recognizing these important days throughout month.
Although Cinco de Mayo was yesterday, we took the opportunity to celebrate the holiday by learning about the real history and recognizing the beauty of Mexican and Chicano culture. We noted on our IG a recent Bustle article that shared more about this history through the eyes and journeys of four Mexican-American women — Nabila Sedano, Bonnie Casillas, Ruby de Santiago, and Monica. Learn more about their stories and how you can support this community!
Mother’s Day is near! Are you struggling to find a gift or looking for a way to gift mom and support Black-owned businesses?
COVID Vaccine
According to the CDC, more than 40% of all American adults have been fully vaccinated, while about 56% have received at least one dose. President Biden announced a new goal this week to have roughly 70% of adults vaccinated with at least one shot by July 4.
Are you looking for a vaccine near you?
The CDC and Department of Health and Human Services rolled out this service where you can visit Vaccines.gov or simply text your zip code to 438829 to find one near you.
You can join the standby list for a vaccine near you through the app, Dr. B.
If you recently received your vaccine dose(s) and would like to share your experience with the Notedd tribe, the COVID vaccine thread is available! Feel free to complete the survey linked below and we’ll add your anonymous response to our existing thread.

Anti-protest bills have been introduced, state by state, over the years, but most are saying that the protests for George Floyd are now triggering the recent wave. Learn more about what’s happening in your state using the US Protest Law Tracker.
There is an attempt underway to appeal the recent conviction of the former Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger, who was sentenced to prison for murdering Botham Jean. Also, Derek Chauvin’s attorney is requesting a new trial and alleging jury misconduct.
Black women are making history in medicine!
Dr. Kanika Bowen-Jallow became the 9th Black female pediatric surgeon in the US.
Dr. Margaret Towolawi opened the first Black-owned Primary Care practice in the state of Washington.
Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor’ turned 20! Yup, that hit hard for us too. We’re shedding a tear or two while listening to our favorite song on the album: Fancy 😌 Happy Listening!
As promised, our honorable mentions this month will focus on all things: BEAUTY!
Alexia P. Hammonds always had a love for perfume. Through this love, she became the first Black woman to craft her own fragrance in Grasse, France.
Hammonds’ Eat. Sweat. Undress. is a hair fragrance collection and lifestyle brand designed for active women made with special oils to condition their hair and leave a beautiful scent. It’s based, she says, on her knowledge of creating her own products from a young age and a fascination with the perfume industry.
You can add the hair mists to your daily hair routine, after a workout, and to help get rid of those smokey smells from the hookah lounges and clubs.
Un-ruly was created to celebrate and inspire the versatility and beauty of Black hair and women.
